Denim Fit Guide
Welcome to the Runway Rags fit guide. We find that most of our female customers are the most confused regarding their size and best fit when it comes to denim. For this reason we have put together a denim fit guide, we have organized the denim labels by problem area.
Pear Shape
Tips for dressing your body:
- Stick with dark clean washes, that won't emphasize your thigh/hip area.
- Stay clear of too much distressing especially around the bum and thigh area.
- Stay with straight, bootcut or wide leg pants, peg legs or jeans that are tight through the calf are not your friends.
- You can wear "Skinny Jeans" just stay away from tapered or peg leg.
- Make sure you wear heels, it's amazing how a shoe changes the shape of your figure, you posture and over all silhouette, Heel will lengthen and slim you.
- Make sure the back pocket placement is good for your figure, pockets that are too wide set apart, make the booty look bigger, go for a midsized pocket, center aligned.
Flat Bottom
Tips for dressing your body:
- Wear jeans with embellishments on the back pockets, this will bring attention to your bottom.
- Look for jeans with smaller pockets, small pockets will make the bottom look bigger - optical illusion. Flap pocket jeans are another good way of adding volume to the rear, although make sure the back pockets don't sit too low, as this will give the appearance of a flat butt.
Petite
Tips for dressing your body:
- Skinny jeans are great for petite ladies, as they make the legs appear longer, however if you are a round petite lady you are best to stick with wide leg jeans and trousers, they will also make the legs look long and disguise hips and thighs at the same time.
- Always wear heels! Wedges, Stiletto's etc. As a petite lady you must wear high heels to do justice to your figure.
- Always ask your tailor to do an original hem on your jeans, at Runway Rags we offer FREE alterations on original priced merchandise.
- Dark colors will make legs appear longer, stick with tailored classic cuts.
Short Waist
Tips for dressing your body:
- Go for low riding back pockets that will give the appearance of a longer waist.
- Make sure you always go for a low-rise jean, the lower the better. High-rise jeans will emphasize your lack of waist.
Long tunic tops paired with skinny jeans will make the torso look longer.
Long Waist
Tips for dressing your body:
- Go for high rise pants, you can rock the new high rise sailor pant with a blouse tucked in, this will make the torso appear shorter and legs longer.
Never wear tops that are too long in the body, this will emphasize your long torso, go for waist length tops
Apple Shape/Belly
Tips for dressing your body:
- Avoid jeans that are too tight on your waist, this will just emphasize your problem area.
- Go for high-rise options that skim over your waist making it disappear and stick to dark washes.
- Wear wide waist belts with you jeans, to make the waist area look smaller.
Long tunic tops paired with skinny jeans will make the torso look longer.
